History of the NPTA

Motivated to save our tennis courts from being removed in 2011, a group of enthusiastic residents came together to form a non-profit association that would save and influence the maintenance and installation of lights on the courts over the next several years, working closely with the New Providence Recreation Department. 

We were successful in preserving the courts that we still have today, creating a tennis community in our town, while fostering town spirit. Today, the NPTA sponsors tennis programs and events that have nourished a vibrant tennis community, where people come together to promote our physical and mental health in this “World’s Healthiest Sport.”

Our Mission

The mission of the New Providence Tennis Association is to promote and grow the game of tennis in and around the community of New Providence, New Jersey. The NPTA sponsors tennis programs and events that can be enjoyed by all members of the association regardless of age, race, color, gender, or ethnicity.

Giving back to the community

The NPTA is dedicated to serving the New Providence community and our students. We have contributed: 

• Tennis scholarships each year to two graduating seniors, a girl and a boy, in our town who best demonstrated the spirit of tennis as a lifelong sport. 
• Funds donated to the New Providence Recreation Dept, for their cooperation and the use of the courts 
• Purchase items for the courts, such as first aid kits, windscreens, for players to use on the outdoor courts 
• Sponsorship donations to the local NJ area tennis team competing in the Special Olympics.

What We Offer

Join the NPTA and choose from the many opportunities our club has to offer!

Most of our tennis programs are geared to adults and are hosted at the outdoor New Providence municipal tennis courts located off of Springfield Avenue next to the New Providence Community Pool. We have access to restrooms, tennis shelter, and nearby parking. 

We have programs on the outdoor courts on Saturday mornings and during the week, under the lighted courts during the nights of spring, summer and fall. We also arrange to play indoors during the winter months, at local facilities where we bring food and socialize together.
